There's always the endless stream of tasks on the teacher's list. You are never done. It is also difficult to delegate tasks, taking more time than it's worth. However, finding the right people to help can make a difference. Now, putting this out there, it isn't always a good idea to ask family members to help you out. My husband, also a teacher and at one time my coworker, would be happy to help me out when asked. Then again, after much experience, I noticed that it's better to keep work at work and enjoy time with your family at home. However, this time I was happy to help my mom out with publishing books for her class.
It took me a little while, but using Canva, I made a book template I was happy with. Then, using the students' notebooks, typed in their writing. This went fast once I got the hang of it. Also, I used an accessible font, Inclusive Sans from Google, to make the text easier for the kids to read. The space at the top is left for their illustrations.
While BookCreator can be a helpful digital tool, it doesn't replace the fun of writing in a lined notebook and then seeing that be published. It is a small way to help, but so worth it!
If you'd like a copy of the template to use with your students, you can get it here. Print double-sided, short edge.
